Hello,

I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA) and the owner of Rewrite Therapy. I have experience working with individuals struggling with a range of mental health difficulties including depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, and relationship difficulties. In working together, I hope you feel safe and able to be your whole authentic self. I will not pretend to have all the answers, but I am wholly committed to supporting you in searching for them.

My lived experiences shape my perspective and my clinical work. I’m a native-born Korean-American, a child of immigrants, and a person of faith. I’m a business owner who has had his fair share of career crises. I’ve had my own battles with depression and anxiety, and I am committed to my own personal inner work and healing. I understand the cultural, relational, socioeconomic, and identity development challenges that are common among children of immigrants and immigrant families. I understand navigating covert racism and stereotyping as an Asian American, ministry burnout and spiritual abuse in the Christian Evangelical context, and the pressures that come with shame-based cultures.

In order to create a safe and inclusive space, I am devoted to the important work of recognizing my privileges and addressing my personal biases. I strive to be culturally affirming and have a social justice-oriented approach to counseling.

STEPHEN KIM, MA, LMHCA

My Approach

We often don’t know why we do what we do. We often think, say, and do things we don’t mean or necessarily want to do. This makes knowing ourselves very difficult! I believe the first step toward self-acceptance and changing our unhealthy patterns is knowing ourselves deeply. This may involve confronting past hurts and mistakes, and my hope is to help you navigate that road safely.

While my clinical approach is grounded in psychodynamic psychotherapies, I want to collaborate with you to understand your specific needs. I may integrate other evidence-based practices such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy. I prioritize wanting to know your story and help you toward greater self-understanding.
